Çünkü enerji maliyetlerinin, ürün maliyetine olan etkisi oldukça büyüktür. Bu çalışmada bir refrakter malzeme çeşidi olan karbon magnezit tuğlanın temperlenmesinde kullanılan tünel tipi bir fırın için gerekli olan enerji miktarının azaltması amaçlanmıştır. Bunun için öncelikle daha iyi bir ısı izolasyonu sağlanmış olup sonra da birim fiyatı daha pahalı bir yakıt olan fuel-oil yerine daha ucuz bir yakıt olan doğalgazın kullanımı tasarlanmıştır. Yapılan iyileştirmeler sonucunda mevcut fırına göre %24,5 daha az enerji harcanmaktadır. Following the improvement actions laken, 24.5% less energy is consumed in comparison with the existing furnace.
